7 Great ways to prepare for back to school
The summer months are flying by, and before you know it, school will be here. I’ve rounded up 7 great ways to prepare for back to school, so when it arrives, everyone will be ready!
1.Check out your child’s school supply list-visit your child’s school website and check out the grade appropriate school supply list. All of the big box stores are running their back to school supply sale, so don’t forget to check them out!
2.Start getting your kids to bed earlier-We all tend to slack on getting the kids to bed on a schedule in the summer. Â I know ours have been getting to bed at almost 10:00pm(and no they don’t sleep any later the next morning-brutal) This takes some time for them to get acclimated to getting to bed earlier and back on the routine, so this one is important!!!
Back To School Shopping!!!
3.Back to school clothes shopping -Try to catch some sales: Target(plus when you use your red card you always save an additional 5% on top of free shipping. Its not a credit card, but acts as a debit card that is linked to your checking acct, click below to get signed up with your red card, its a no brainer, especially if you were going to use your debit card anyway). Â They have TONS of deals going on right now. Â You can click the Target link above or the banner below to start saving! Â Other good back to school places are Kohls, & JcPenney, Â I can usually find great options at Once Upon a Child(if your city has one of these second-hand stores).
4.Packed lunch ideas– One word- “PINTEREST”. Â There are so many bloggers that post great lunch options for kids. Â Below are a few of my favorites that I follow for ideas. Check out my recent post I did on great lunch bag options, this post on great container options, and this post on great insulated lunch containers
5.Approach any apprehensions your child may have-If they are entering Kindergarten, this is a completely new thing and have lots of fears. Â They don’t know what to expect, they don’t know anyone, they don’t know what they’ll be doing at school all day, etc. Â They might be really intimidated and shy, so its important to begin building confidence from the beginning and fill them with positive tones! This is a great book to help Kindergartners with their fears, this Llama Llama & The First Day Jitters book is great to ease their fears. Â For others, they’ll be entering Junior High, which most likely is a new school, new sets of classmates, & teachers all over again, or even a fear of being bullied if they were faced with that previously. Â It’s so sad that bullying seems to be getting worse and that it comes up so often throughout the school year. I think it all starts at home. Parents need to be teaching kindness, respect, confidence and compassion to their children, and also if they don’t get attention at home from the parents, I think they’re more liable to bully at school to make up for the lost attention at home. Â On that note- this is a great book option when bullying is a topic in your home as well as this. This middle school series of books is another great option. Visit your local library and check out books pertaining to these fears, as well
6.Organize the school calendar and implement it into your own personal one/share with your significant other-It’s better to get this done and over with early!  Imom.com is probably my all time favorite places to go for printables, below are just a taste of what she has, they are in one word-AMAZING!  I am a big advocate on these, as they just keep you better organized(calendars, groceries, to do lists, organization, behavioral charts & some really uplifting quotes for kids too) that you can print off.  You can then pat yourself on the back each time you fill them out.
7.Do some test runs-See how long it takes everyone to get dressed, eat breakfast, brush teeth/hair, in the car(I dont know about yours, but my kids move at the pace of a sloth, forget to put on socks, shoes, get their lunch bags-practically everything)and to the school. Â So you’ll be better prepared what time to get them up and how long it
